Then, they will use an anti-insect medication like lidocaine or mineral oil to kill the insect. During this procedure, the insect may also be washed out of the ear with warm water. If the infection is severe, your doctor may prescribe antibiotics to treat the ear.
There are many types of insects that can enter your ear, including flies. Fruit flies are a common culprit, but they are not the only ones. Bedbugs, crickets, and moths have also been known to lay their eggs inside the ear. However, earwigs have not been known to lay their eggs in the ear. Aural myiasis is an infestation of the middle or external ear, and usually occurs in children or those with other predisposing factors.
If the bugs are large enough, they can pierce the eardrum and cause an infection. The pain and swelling will likely subside within a day or two, but you should see your doctor as soon as possible if you find an insect in your ear.
