As the Crow Flies – A Review
The idiom “as the crow flies” describes the direct path between two points. It is used in the context of navigation. This idiom is an excellent way to compare routes. It also allows people to plan routes that take into account various constraints such as weather, terrain, and traffic.
The term has its origins with medieval sailors who would keep a raven on board their ships. When they were close to land, they would release the crow to scout the terrain. Using this information, they would assume that the land they were looking for was in the direction of the crow’s flight.
As The Crow Flies was directed by Ay Yapim and written by Meric Acemi, and was filmed in Turkey. Despite its name, the film tries to be smart and witty, but it ends up being silly and melodramatic. The narration is also intrusive.
The series began with a brutal attack on Lale, leaving her unconscious on the floor. Then, we meet Asli, the new news anchor. The network could implement a penalty clause, which would require her to work for three years as punishment for violating ethics.
Despite the overdramatic aspect, As the Crow Flies is a good thriller and it does have its moments. The characters are a little batshit, but they keep things interesting enough. The overdramatic elements are unnecessary, but they do go along with the theme of the series. Despite its flaws, As the Crow Flies is a great guilty pleasure.
