How to Get Rid of Fleas by Combing Your Pet’s Fur
One of the first things to do if you’ve noticed a flea infestation is to wash your pet with hot water. Add some lemon based dish soap to the water and give your pet a bath. This is a natural remedy that will help get rid of fleas on your pet’s coat. Alternatively, you can purchase a flea spray and add it to the water.
Fleas are generally about the size of a poppy seed and are reddish brown in color. They often hide on the animal’s body parts, including the belly and under the chin. By combing the body areas twice, you will be able to kill the fleas on the second pass.
Fleas will also lay eggs in your pet’s fur. You’ll be able to spot fleas by looking for flea dirt or adult fleas on your pet. Flea dirt is the droppings of adult fleas, which feed the young ones. Look for these flea dirt and flea eggs in areas where there’s low foot traffic and no direct sunlight. If you find your pet has pet hair, look for flea dirt on that area as well.
A flea comb should be used to thoroughly combing your pet’s fur. Be sure to check the flea dirt on the comb. If you find any flea dirt, put them in a bowl of soapy water and then remove them. You can use the same method to clean your home.
