Can You Go to School With Fleas?
There is a question on the minds of parents: Can you go to school with fleas? The answer depends on the severity of the infestation. Schools should be able to tell if a building is flea-free before allowing students into it. However, it’s best to be extra cautious if you have a family pet with fleas.
Fleas are an issue in all parts of the country, including school buildings. Cat fleas are the most common species found in schools, but they can be found on other animals too. Dogs, chickens, raccoons, and opossums also have fleas. The human flea, on the other hand, is called Pulex irritans.
The school district is treating the entire campus with a pesticide and flea-killing spray. Children in the infested classrooms were moved to other classrooms while the classrooms were cleaned. However, students later discovered that the infestation had spread to more classrooms. The district contacted Poison Free Malibu for a pest control recommendation, but the company wasn’t able to get to the root of the problem in time.
While there are other ways to prevent fleas from spreading to humans, preventing the spread of fleas in a classroom is essential. The school should keep the area clean by washing the bedding and floor coverings regularly. In areas of the building where the fleas are most likely to be present, the school should apply an insecticide, such as permethrin, to the surfaces.
