Can Fleas Kill Newborn Puppy?

Fleas are one of the most common parasites that newborn puppies can get, but they do not always kill newborn puppies. Depending on the type and severity of the infestation, some flea treatments can be applied to puppies as young as 6 weeks. To treat your puppy, you must first wash it thoroughly and vacuum its environment. You should also treat the mother and other pets in the home to keep them flea-free.

Newborn puppies are especially susceptible to flea medications because their internal organs are not yet fully developed. The active ingredient in most commercial flea treatments, permethrin, can be toxic to young dogs, and it may cause symptoms including low energy and breathing problems. It is therefore essential to consult your veterinarian before giving your puppy a flea treatment.

Fleas live anywhere, including in clothes, carpets, and furniture. You can kill them by washing them regularly and thoroughly, but don’t forget to avoid the eyes and nose. Another way to kill fleas is to use a flea repellent made from natural essential oils such as citronella and eucalyptus.

To treat your newborn puppies’ flea infestation, the first step is to remove all bedding, towels, and mats. If you notice any fleas on your puppy’s bedding, wash it thoroughly with detergent. You can then place it outside in the sun to dry. Alternatively, you can sprinkle the bedding with baking soda.
