Which Cockroach is Attracted to Light?

Cockroaches are nocturnal creatures that prefer dark places to live and reproduce. Since natural light is not their friend, they avoid bright areas to avoid being spotted by bigger predators. However, if you notice a cockroach when the sun is still up, it might mean that you have an infestation.

While most roaches are attracted to light, some are not. This is mainly true for those that are good flyers, like the Australian cockroach. If you find a roach in your home that’s not attracted to light, call a pest control expert to get rid of it.

Aside from the Asian Cockroach, many other cockroach species are nocturnal, meaning they spend most of their time in dark areas. The German cockroach is the most common species found in North America, and is usually found in kitchens. Since it is so common, it doesn’t have to travel far to find food. In addition, Oriental cockroaches, which are also known as waterbugs, tend to live in dark places. The American cockroach is another species that is reluctant to venture into light.

While the German roach does not like light, tree roaches do. Roaches that are attracted to light tend to be less timid than those that don’t, so you should keep the lights on for as long as possible until the infestation is eliminated.
