Where Cockroaches Are Found
The American cockroach is the most common cockroach found in suburban and Southern neighborhoods. Its preferred habitat is damp places with high humidity. This species also prefers areas that are protected from wind. It is rarely found in kitchens. The adult cockroach is golden tan in color with a black head and two black stripes running down its pronotum.
Cockroaches are omnivores and eat a wide variety of organic materials. They are not known to bite humans, but will often nibble at sores and wounds on an animal’s skin. They also eat glue from books and postage stamps. This type of cockroach is a common source of bacteria, including Shigella and Salmonella.
Cockroaches can live for over 250 million years and have wingspans up to 18cm. They can weigh up to 50 grams. They are also extremely resistant to radiation. Cockroaches have evolved to be able to live in damp and warm environments. They have the ability to reproduce very quickly, which makes them a desirable pest control option for many home and business owners.
Cockroaches are nocturnal and often scatter if disturbed. They are born as nymphs and undergo a gradual metamorphosis before becoming adults. Nymphs are white and do not have fully developed wings. They are not reproductively active. Cockroaches are present all over the world, from tropical areas to temperate ones.
