What to Do When You Lose a Cockroach

Cockroaches love to live in clutter, which allows them to breed easily and hide. To avoid attracting cockroaches, keep clutter to a minimum and keep it disinfected. Water and moisture are also attractive to cockroaches, so keep plumbing and water issues under check.

Cockroaches will lay eggs on upholstered furniture or wooden furniture. Cockroaches can also live inside envelope glue and can easily hide in cardboard or food and beverage boxes. If you find a dead cockroach, you can trace its route. If you find live cockroaches, your home is likely infested with cockroaches.

Cleaning up your home is the easiest way to keep roaches away. Roaches can live for two to three weeks without food or water, so making your home as clean as possible is vital. Wipe up spills immediately and put dishes away as soon as you use them. You should also clean under appliances such as the refrigerator, which is a favorite hiding place for roaches. Also, keep garbage cans clean both inside and outside, and make sure the lids are secure.

Cockroaches are frightening. You’ve probably seen one crawling on a piece of furniture or scurrying across your floor. Seeing one can be terrifying, but knowing that there are many more in hiding is even worse.
