How Many Cockroach Have Eyes?

Cockroaches have eyes that have around 2,000 hexagonal facets, which makes them one of the most brilliant insects in the world! Their eyes are so advanced that they can perceive multiple objects at the same time, while human vision is limited to seeing only one giant image. This incredible feat is made possible by the presence of a compound eye and several other specialized structures in the insect’s eye.

Besides eyes, cockroaches have other senses, including antennae, which house their scent organs. Male cockroaches also have extra receptors to detect female pheromones. In addition, they have hairs on their legs that are used for detecting movement and air currents.

The ability to see in the dark is another way that cockroaches use to navigate. They have a unique feature called long-exposure vision, and they can detect objects in nearly pitch-black environments. To determine this, researchers at the University of Oulu inserted a harmless recording instrument into a cockroach eyeball, and recorded the electrical signals produced by the insect’s photoreceptor cells.

Another interesting fact about cockroaches is that they have a very open circulatory system, and they breathe through holes on the segments of their bodies. This makes them very flexible and easy to handle. Cockroaches are also very resilient and can survive in water for up to 30 minutes without losing their head. If their food and water are not provided, they will die within a week or month. They are quite resilient, and a little bit of persistence can go a long way!
