How Long Does Cockroach Bait Last?

Cockroach baits come in many different forms, each designed to kill the insects in the most effective manner. Gel baits, for example, fill crevices below baseboards and behind appliances. They kill the targeted roach by preventing sodium ions from entering the cell, which blocks the chain of chemical signals required for life. These gels remain effective for up to three generations, ensuring a complete eradication of the entire colony. One disadvantage to this type of bait is that it takes up to four days for a single roach to die, and it could take weeks to see measurable results for an infestation of many cockroaches.

Once the live cockroaches have been killed, it’s important to keep in mind that these pests will continue to visit your home, either from new entry points or from their eggs. To keep the cockroaches out permanently, you should seal any new entry points. If you have a kitchen, make sure to clean the grease under the refrigerator, the gaps between the stove and cabinets, and any food that’s collected in bins.

Cockroach baits are effective for about three months, but it’s important to replace them regularly. After this time, the bait should no longer be appealing to the roaches. The baits should also be replaced if you’ve had any problems with moisture in the area.
