How Cockroaches Look at You
Cockroaches are not known for their tendency to bite humans. In fact, they will only bite if they are starving. However, if an infestation is particularly bad, the roaches may stop feeding and start biting you. Fortunately, this is rare.
Cockroaches have long legs, a flattened oval body and long antennae. They also have six strong legs covered in spines. The young are almost identical to the adults, but are smaller and do not have wings. If you see one in your home, be sure to investigate.
Cockroaches live in warm, moist places. Their egg cases are typically in high places, so they are hard to see until they are almost fully grown. Cockroaches look like other bugs, but they have distinct colors and smells. They leave a musty odor on food or surfaces.
Cockroaches use their sense of smell and touch to navigate. They also see in the dark. They use thousands of light-sensitive cells on their compound eyes. To improve their vision, researchers developed a virtual reality system for cockroaches. This enables the insects to spin in the direction of their environment, stabilize their vision and avoid obstacles.
Cockroaches can live in a number of places, including under kitchen sinks, pantry drawers, and storage rooms. They also live in furniture and cushions, and the seams of mattresses and couches. They will leave their excrement in areas where they can hide.
