How Can Cockroaches Get Drunk?

It’s not entirely clear how cockroaches get drunk, but they do enjoy a cold beer and are often attracted to the sugars and hops found in beer. Beer is an obvious choice for these critters, but you should avoid the temptation to serve it to your guests. Beer is one of the only beverages they’ll gulp down, as they don’t check ID. In addition, beer is not a good roach-killing substance, as cockroaches have spiracles that allow them to breathe. When the alcohol gets to them, they stop breathing, reducing the amount of water they take in.

Cockroaches don’t have emotions, but they do feel itchiness and irritation, and they can smell damage. They can hold their breath for up to 40 minutes, and will eventually get back up when they’re safe. They’re a good actor, but they don’t have much of an emotional side to them.

Cockroaches live in a symbiotic relationship with bacteria called bacteroids. These bacteria live in special cells in their fat body tissue. These bacteria are passed on from generation to generation. Bacteria in the bacteria produce all the vitamins and minerals the cockroach needs, including choline and cholesterol. Without these bacteria, the cockroach wouldn’t have any of these essential vitamins.

Cockroaches play an important role in nature. Their diet consists of decaying organic matter, which helps trap nitrogen. If they were to become extinct, the entire ecosystem would suffer, including other species of plants.
