Can Dishwashing Soap Kill Cockroaches?

A recent study from Kansas University shows that a solution of 1% dishwashing soap and water can kill 95% of adult German cockroaches. However, the reason it works is not fully understood. Unlike other pesticides, a solution of soap does not kill cockroaches instantly. Instead, soaps work by being applied directly to individual roaches. However, the method is ineffective for roaches that live in colonies.

Another effective method is to spray soap and water on the cockroaches. Spraying a solution of soap and water will cover the roach’s breathing pores, suffocating them. However, this method does not prevent roaches from coming back into the home. For this reason, you may also want to use an insecticide. However, be aware that the chemical may drive roaches deeper into the walls and floors of your home.

While cockroaches and spiders are a nuisance and can be annoying, they can also pose health risks. Their droppings and bodily fluids, as well as their skin casts, can contain more than 30 different types of bacteria, which can lead to illness in humans.

Another common way to kill roaches is by using baking soda. This works well because baking soda contains sweet ingredients that attract roaches to eat it. Another common home remedy for roaches is diatomaceous earth. The ingredient is made from fossils of single-celled marine algae and is effective against other pest insects.
