If you’re wondering if cockroaches can drink water, you’ve probably heard that they can’t. After all, they’re lousy swimmers! You could try to submerge the cockroach in water for a few minutes or flush it down the drain. However, you’d be wrong to think that cockroaches can’t stand water. Cockroaches can hold their breath for 30 minutes underwater, and 40 minutes above water. Despite this, they can bob to the surface for oxygen.

Cockroaches have several mouthparts, but no tongue, so they cannot drink large quantities of water. To keep their moisture levels high, they must crawl to water sources. Depending on the temperature, roaches can survive up to seven days without water, although those in arid climates are able to survive for much longer.

In addition to avoiding direct contact with water, cockroaches prefer moist environments to dry ones. They will die if they don’t get enough water, so they must be provided with water. They also prefer water that is at or below the temperature of room temperature. However, cockroaches will not drink water that is too hot, as it hurts their mouthparts.

Another way to keep cockroaches hydrated is by placing a moisture wick system in the colony. This system uses an absorbent material to wick up water from the bottom to the top. To make a moisture wick system, you need a container with a tight-fitting lid and absorbent material to soak up water. Make sure the wick is long enough so that it reaches the bottom and top of the container. Once the wick is wet, you can place the container in the colony.
