How Fleas Can Become Bed Bugs
Fleas are small, red-brown insects that can easily infest your house. They are nocturnal and can hide in various areas of your home. They can be found in upholstery, baseboards, and piping in your mattress. But if you discover them in your carpet or upholstery, you should know that they are not the same as bed bugs.
Fleas prefer to live on furry animals, but they can also bite humans if they feel the need. Fleas typically bite the legs and ankles, while bedbugs typically feed on blood. The bites are raised and itchy, and they may become inflamed or blistered. Avoid scratching the bites as this can cause infection.
Fleas are difficult to detect unless they are in their adult stages, but there are signs you can look for. First, you can look for flea dirt, which is simply dried blood. Flea dirt will turn red if you wet it. You can also look for reddish brown stains on your mattress or bed sheets.
Fleas are a common problem, but they are not as easily detectable as bed bugs. They produce an odor that resembles the smell of an old house. Moreover, they lay around 500 eggs every couple of months. Therefore, it’s important to treat the problem as soon as possible.
