How to Keep Ants Out of Your Home

Having ants in your home can cause a lot of discomfort. While it may be tempting to just let the ants run loose, there are several steps you can take to keep them out.

The first step is to find out what type of ants are infesting your home. The most common ant species in the home are pavement ants, also called sugar ants. These small creatures will forage for food inside and outside.

Next, you need to check for possible entry points. Ants can enter your home through small cracks in the foundation, wall voids or even wire entry points.

Besides ants, many other pests can live inside your home. You can eliminate many of them by closing off entry points.

Using insecticide dust can be an effective way to treat ant nests in the soil. Another option is to use a liquid pesticide that can reach the queen.

You can also make a homemade ant bait by mixing boric acid crystals with sugar and water. You can then store the bait in a labeled jar. You can boil the solution for six minutes to dissolve the acid crystals.

Ants will often forage for food in your kitchen. If you notice ants foraging in your kitchen, you should clean up spilled food and wipe up any crumbs. You should also check for leaks under appliances. If there is a lot of moisture, you should dry the area immediately.

You can also keep ants from invading your home by cleaning up spills quickly. If you have pets, be sure to clean their water bowls and keep them off the floor.
