Do Ants Make Babies?

Unlike humans, ants have a cyclical resting cycle. That is, they spend eight minutes of their day huddled up in a ball like fashion. This enables them to eat, sleep and play without getting too hot and bothered. In a pinch, this translates into more efficient colony operations.

While it’s true that ants don’t have the scientifically determined brainpower required to come up with the most useful inventions, they aren’t without their own smarts. A single queen can produce up to 800 eggs a day. These eggs are then passed along to the males and spawned in droves. The most obvious implication is that a queen is needed to pass on all her genes. In the long run, this is a win-win for all parties involved.

Ants also have a very specialized excretory system. They have specialized lungs, stomachs and mouthparts. In the wild, they also have a special place to bury the dead. The best part is that their poop is not a hazard to humans. This translates into one of the happiest creatures in the animal kingdom.

While ants aren’t the first creatures to come to mind when it comes to sex, they do mate off. Males and females compete for the attention of mates, and each will have their own territory in the battle for food and space. This may explain why the females tend to be the most docile.
