Can Ants Cause Rashes?

When you get bitten by an ant, you should try to keep from scratching the area. Scratching can cause skin breakage and may also cause infection. This is why it is important to wash the area and use antibacterial soap.

Symptoms of an ant bite include pain, swelling, and redness. The swelling is generally mild. Some people experience dizziness, abdominal cramping, and nausea. If you experience severe abdominal pain or vomiting, you should seek medical attention immediately.

If you develop an allergic reaction to ant stings, you may need to get a shot or visit the emergency room. Your doctor will examine the area where the ant bit you and ask about any previous exposure. If you have a history of allergies, you may need to take antihistamines to control the swelling.

If you have an allergic reaction to ants, you may experience swelling, itching, and redness at the site of the bite. Your healthcare provider will also check your vital signs.

If you experience a severe allergic reaction to ants, your symptoms may include: dizziness, vomiting, hoarseness, chest pain, and angioedema. The swelling can become very large and cause breathing problems. Your healthcare provider may prescribe antihistamines, an epinephrine auto-injector (EpiPen), or hydrocortisone cream.
