When Does a Wasps Nest Die?

Normally, a wasps nest will only last for one season. When the winter comes, they will die. However, if a queen wasp survives, she will build a new nest.

A queen wasp lays about ten to twenty eggs. Each of the eggs hatch into a larva, which feeds on protein-rich insects. Once the larvae grow, they pupate into an adult worker wasp.

This is the same process that occurs in caterpillars and butterflies. However, the process takes three weeks. During this time, the queen will change her diet to make sure that the larvae can survive.

The queen wasp will then mate with other queens and build a new nest. These nests are about the size of a golf ball. These nests are made from saliva and chewed wood pulp. They can be found in places such as eaves, roof spaces, and tree stumps.

Once a queen wasp has emerged from hibernation, she will lay eggs in the nest. The eggs will hatch into larvae, and they will feed on rotted fruit.

The first worker wasps will emerge in late April or early June. These workers will die by the first hard frost. The workers will die of old age, and the nest will be empty when winter arrives.

A wasps nest is a great example of a useful and albeit misunderstood product. The main purpose of any wasp colony is to keep the queen alive. However, when the cold weather sets in, the queen wasp dies.
