Can Wasps Hurt Cats?
Getting stung by wasps is not a big deal for most cats. They will usually recover within a few hours. However, some cats may experience an allergic reaction. Fortunately, there are treatments for these symptoms.
If you suspect your cat is experiencing an allergic reaction, it is important to get it to the veterinarian right away. In extreme cases, the cat may experience cardiac arrest or respiratory difficulties. The veterinarian may prescribe an EpiPen. If the reaction is mild, the veterinarian may prescribe Benadryl. In more serious cases, the cat may need a corticosteroid drug.
First, you should try to find out if your cat has been stung. If you suspect it has been stung, apply an ice pack to the affected area to reduce swelling and pain. You can also apply a cool, wet towel to the area. If you can’t find a cool, wet towel, you can place a bag of frozen peas over the area.
You can also apply an antihistamine ointment or an oral anti-histamine to reduce the itching and discomfort. You can also try a cool flannel over the area.
You should also monitor your cat for signs of an allergic reaction. If your cat begins to itch or swallows blood, you should take it to the veterinarian right away.
Some cats are allergic to the venom in wasps. An allergic reaction to wasp stings may result in anaphylactic shock, which is life-threatening. If the reaction is severe, the vet may prescribe corticosteroid drugs or an EpiPen.
