Why Does Termites Like Light?

Termites are a type of insect that is known for their ability to swarm. Swarms are usually seen in the spring and fall. Typically, swarms are found around windows or doors. Swarmers are winged adult insects that are looking for a new colony. If you see swarmers in your home, you need to take action to get rid of the pests.

Swarming termites are a sign of an infestation. When a swarm of termites appears in your house, it is most likely that they came from an underground nest. The colony can be in the walls or the foundation of the house.

Termite swarms can last for as long as forty minutes. They are not aggressive and do not bite. If you find a swarm, you should take it to your local cooperative extension center to be identified. If you cannot find the nest, your best option is to remove the swarm and call a professional pest control company.

When termites swarm, they flutter away towards a light source. This is because they are attracted to light. If you see a swarm of termites, they are likely trying to start a new colony.

Unlike bees, termites are not very strong fliers. They have two wings that are usually about three centimetres long. These wings are veiny, but are still translucent. The wings are used for mating and for flight.

Although there is no concrete proof of how termites sense light, there are theories. Some say that they use pheromones. Another theory is that they are attracted to light by phototaxis. This theory is based on the idea that insects are attracted to bright lights because they need them to survive.
