Why Do Termites Come Out at Night?

Termites swarm at night. This is mainly due to the need to reproduce. They use chemicals to communicate. They will release these chemical trails when they are on their way back to their colony. This is how they are able to locate a food source.

There are two types of termites. One is the drywood type, and the other is the subterranean type. The drywood type only swarms at night. They aren’t as popular as the subterranean type. They are more common during the spring and summer.

During the spring and summer months, the humidity in an area increases. This makes it easier for termites to leave their nests. They can also swarm indoors.

During the night, these insects may swarm in order to find a place to stay. This is a sign that you have an infestation inside or under your home. If you think you are dealing with a termite problem, you should contact a pest control professional. You can also collect termite swarmers and take them to your local cooperative extension center to be identified.

Some of these insects can fly, but they cannot see. They rely on their senses more than their eyesight to determine whether they need to come out at night or not.

Usually, the first signs of termite activity are seen during the spring and summer months. During these times, termites will come out of their underground nests to find a new location to establish a colony.
