Where Do Termites Go During the Day?

Termites are winged insects and are commonly found outside of homes. They are destructive pests and can cause damage to wooden surfaces. They can also enter homes through cracks and gaps in the foundation. They can cause thousands of dollars in repairs.

Termites can swarm indoors as well. If you see a swarm, you may have a termite problem and need to call an exterminator. Swarms can occur when the humidity is high and the temperature is overcast. Swarms can last up to an hour and a half. If you do not want termites inside your home, you should seal off soffit vents, cracks and other gaps. You should also make sure the gutters are clean.

Termites can be identified by the presence of mud-tubes. These are passageways that termites build when they create a new colony. These tubes provide them access to food sources and help them escape predators. These tubes are often visible on wooden structures.

If you see a swarm, look for discarded wings on the ground or on your windows sills. You can also find a termite’s discarded wings near window frames or baseboards.

Swarms may also appear in your yard. These are reproductive termites that have wings. They are looking for a new place to establish a nest. These reproductive termites may be outside on trees, logs or outbuildings.

Termites are very active during the day. They are constantly moving to gather food and protect the colony. They will be less active during the night and when the temperatures fall.
