The first step to eliminating a termite infestation is to identify and address any sources of moisture. Waterlogged foundations, plumbing leaks, and improper drainage can all attract the insects.
Termites are primarily attracted to wood. They eat it and leave behind tiny pellets, which are called frass. This frass can sometimes appear as a liquid substance.
Termites can also be attracted to other materials, such as mulch. Untreated mulch can attract termites. Similarly, firewood piles are also an excellent source of food for termites. If you have a firewood pile, keep the wood at least 20 feet away from your house.
In addition to food, termites need moisture to survive. The best way to keep moisture out of your home is to check for any standing water, repair any damage to your shingles and fascia boards, and ensure proper drainage.
