How Small Can Flying Termites Be?

Termites are a type of insect that can cause substantial damage to your home. They are often mistaken for flying ants. However, they are actually a different species. They are more similar to cockroaches.

Unlike ants, termites have a thin waist. They are generally light in color. They have two straight antennae. They also have two pairs of wings that are the same length. The wings are usually translucent.

The wings are often larger than the body. The wings are also folded. The wings are about twice as long as the termite’s body. They have membranous veins running vertically across the wing.

Termites are typically about 1/4-inch to 1/2-inch in length. They have a wide thorax and abdomen. They have straight, beaded antennae. During mating, the female flying termite will lay a few hundred eggs. These eggs will develop into baby termites, which can be anywhere from light brown to dark brown.

These small insects are usually seen in colonies, which have been built in a specific area for years. When they swarm, they will emerge from the nest. The swarming process will usually last for 30 to 40 minutes. They will then start to mate and begin the process of forming a new colony.

When you see a swarm of termites, you should take immediate steps to reduce the risk. You can do this by turning off exterior lighting, sealing soffit vents, and using blinds to limit the amount of sunlight entering your home.
