How Do Termites Work During the Day?

Termites are small insects, but they’re not your average ant. They can swarm to form colonies, and they may stay in one place for a long time. This type of insect has more than 2,000 species, all of which are quite distinct from each other.

Most people believe that termites swarm only in the spring. In fact, some species will swarm in the winter. The weather may play a part in determining when a termite colony swarms. The warmer the weather, the more likely it is that a swarm will happen.

When a termite swarms, it can land thousands of termites at one time. The swarming process is a fairly quick one, averaging only about a half an hour. It’s not uncommon for a swarm to contain 50,000 termites.

There are a few different types of termites, including subterranean, drywood, and dampwood. The most common are the subterranean termites. They are known for their skill in creating mud tubes that allow them to enter homes.

In addition to tunneling, these termites have swarmers. These are winged adults who are responsible for swarming. These swarmers have complex veins on their wings.

The other thing that a swarm has is the ability to fly. This isn’t as easy as it sounds, as many swarmers will die, or will fall victim to predators.

If you see the termite swarming, the best course of action is to keep it contained in one area. If you can, put a plastic bag over the exit holes. Then, contact a pest control service for help.
