Termite bait stations are an effective tool for managing termite infestations. This system uses baits and other physical barriers to control termites. They can be installed in or above the ground around the perimeter of a structure.

The baits are affixed inside or over active tunnels. Termites travel to the baits and consume them. Once the workers have consumed the bait, the colony’s population decreases. The worker termites share the poisoned bait with their nestmates. This slow decline reduces the overall colony’s population.

The effectiveness of a termite baiting system depends on many factors. A properly maintained and monitored program is the key to successful use.

A bait station can be installed beneath the structure, around the exterior of the building, or in a landscaped area. Typically, stations are placed at regular intervals. However, a house with a larger structure will need more stations.

A pest control company can install bait stations for you. They can also inspect your home on a quarterly or annual basis. When you sign a contract for the service, the termite baiting program will continue throughout the year.

To install a termite bait station, a hollow plastic cylinder is buried in the ground. The cylinder is secured with a lockable cap. The station housing is attached to the ground in augured holes. Slits along the sides allow the bait to be monitored without disturbing the termites.

There are two main types of termite baits. They are Recruit HD and Sentricon. Recruit HD contains the active ingredient Noviflumuron.
