Can Termites Kill Humans?

Termites are a true threat to homes. While they are rarely responsible for serious physical harm, they can still be a serious threat. These insects feed on wood and cause structural damage to homes. They may also bite humans. Fortunately, they are not disease carriers.

There are several forms of termites, including reproductive termites, subterranean termites and soldier termites. Reproductive termites are usually dark brown in color and have brownish-gray wings. They are the first to lay eggs in a new colony.

Subterranean termites can have colonies containing tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of members. These colonies are made up of immatures, workers and soldiers. They are known to produce wood-colored pellets called fras. These spores can be inhaled and may cause some health problems, including fungal infections and hives.

Despite their harmful effects, termites are generally considered harmless to humans. While termites can bite, they are generally not aggressive. They only attack when they feel threatened. They do not usually feed on human blood, though they can be bitten by other insects.

Soldier termites are the only form of termite that can actually kill humans. These termites are equipped to fight off invading insects. These insects have long, narrow amber-colored bodies and no eyes. They depend on workers to feed them. If they are attacked by an animal, they will bite it.

Despite the fact that termites are capable of killing humans, there are few cases of this. Unlike other insects, termites do not bite people. Their bites are accompanied by a small red irritated spot that disappears in a few days.
