Why is it Haram to Kill Spiders?
A lot of people wonder why is it haram to kill spiders. The answer is simple. It depends on whether or not the spiders are dangerous.
If the spiders are harmless and do not harm you, then there is no harm in killing them. It is only when they are dangerous and could harm you that it is haram.
Some spiders are venomous, such as the red back and black widow spiders. They may be dangerous to you if they bite you. However, most are harmless. They prey on flies, mosquitoes, cockroaches and other insects.
Some other insects, such as house centipedes, can be very destructive to a home. To remove them, you can spray them with poison, trap them in jars or use cats. You should be careful not to harm them.
When Prophet Muhammad was fleeing from Mecca, he hid in a cave. His enemies tracked him. When they saw the web he had made, they paused. Then, Allah sent tranquillity to Muhammad. He said, “Don’t grieve!”
When Abu Nu’ayim narrated this story to Muhammad Ibn Ibraahem At-Taymee, he didn’t actually meet the Prophet. He only reported the story.
Several scholars have come to the conclusion that it is permissible to kill spiders. The only problem is that there is no authentic evidence to support this.
The holy spider is a symbol of the natural world and of communion with it. It protects and prevents chaos. In addition, the spider is an agent of God.
