Some species of spiders can even survive falling from great heights without harm. Some even have the ability to jump from the tallest buildings.
Most spiders are so small they can almost float in the air. They use short hairs to trap air around their bodies. This increases the drag and makes them float in the air.
In the fall, spiders start to look for a warm place to live. They may seek shelter in wood, piles of rocks, or leafy surfaces. They also lay eggs and mate. They will wake up when the temperature begins to warm up.

Many spiders have long lifespans. Some have been known to live for up to two years. Others have been known to live for more than three.
In order to survive in the cold, spiders produce glycol compounds that act as antifreeze. They also produce proteins that lower their freezing point. Some spiders can survive temperatures as low as 43 degrees Celsius.
Another amazing defense mechanism is autotomy. When a spider falls, it opens its legs wide. This allows it to travel very fast. It can reach terminal velocity in 5-7 feet.
