What Spiders Can Fly

There are some species of spiders that can balloon. These spiders can lift themselves thousands of feet in the air by using the electric field in the air.

The electric field is naturally produced by thunderstorms all over the planet. The spiders can sense the charge in the air and then manipulate it. The silk strands that are manipulated are attractive to the forces in the air. This allows the spiders to move to a safer location.

When the spider releases the strands of silk into the air, it catches the tiny vortices of air. The spider then uses its anchor silk to hold onto an object. The anchor strands attach themselves to the object before taking off.

The process of ballooning is used by spiders to escape predators, and can also enable them to reach new feeding grounds. The process is dangerous, but not lethal. A flying spider will bite if threatened, but the bite is less severe than a mosquito bite. It will heal quickly.

Flying spiders can travel as far as two and a half miles. They are unique and stunning creatures. Some even fly over oceans.
