What Do Spiders Eat Every Day?
Spiders eat about 400 million to 800 million tons of food annually, which is more than humans eat. Their voracious nature means fewer bugs in your home.
They may also eat water droplets. They have an intestinal system that can pump digestive fluids into their prey. The cross-section of the stomach can concertina, allowing the spider to suck back into itself.
Spiders can eat as much meat as seven billion humans. They are also known to recycle proteins. Those proteins are then used to make silk.
They also can live weeks without food. Larger spiders can survive without eating for a long period of time, while smaller species can be forced to hunt every day. Some spiders will even cannibalize siblings.
There are eight eyes on a spider, although there are some species that have six or even eight. A typical spider will lay between two and one thousand eggs in its sac.
The abdomen contains glands that produce silk. They also have chelicerae, which are hairs that project inwards to the mouth. The mouth opening is surrounded by a pair of maxillae.
They eat about 10 percent of their body weight each day. This includes insects, eggs, meat, milk, and sugar. They are opportunistic feeders. However, they do not normally eat babies.
They can go up to 30 days without hunting. This is not uncommon for wolf spiders. A tarantula can survive a few weeks without food. Some spiders will eat their own webs. Other spiders will discard the web after it has become damaged.
