How Tall Can Spiders Get?
The size of spiders is not as large as you might think. In fact, it is possible for a spider to be as small as a pinhead. Interestingly, the largest spider on earth is a tarantula. It can be found living in the South American rainforests.
During the life cycle of a tarantula, it will have to undergo several molts. The molt is a process in which the tarantula sheds its old exoskeleton. The tarantula will emerge in a larger and better-formed exoskeleton. It can take two to three years for the tarantula to reach maturity.
In addition to a tarantula, other larger spiders are the wolf spider and the giant huntsman spider. Both of these creatures are venomous. They are mainly found in warm climates.
The goliath bird-eating spider can be found in the Amazon rainforest. It can have a leg span of ten inches and weigh up to six ounces. Its fangs are two inches long and it produces tiny barbed hairs for protection.
The giant huntsman spider can be as long as twelve inches. It has legs that are crablike and twisted. These legs are attached to a short patella. The spider can move with a pace as fast as 10 miles per hour.
The king baboon spider is a very large spider. It is a member of the Theraphosidae family. The baboon spider is about 7.9 inches in length. It is located in the Natural History Museum in London.
