How Spiders Take Fall Damage
WouterIf you’re wondering how spiders handle fall damage, you’re not alone. Unlike humans, they do not have a built-in defense against falling, nor do they have a mechanism for jumping out of windows. So it’s safe to say that they aren’t very good at surviving a fall.
While there are spiders that are able to float off to new heights, a few of them can’t even get there. For that reason, you should be careful about handling them. You can squash them, or you can use a commercial formula to kill them.
Similarly, flying insects don’t count as falling insects. They don’t hit the ground with enough force to cause any real damage.
A larger bug’s chances of surviving a fall are better than the chances of getting killed. However, many small bugs have fragile limbs and weak inner organs. They are also not heavy enough to cause damage when they fall.
In general, the largest insect sized creatures are the least suited for such feats. This is due to their size and weight. So while they might be able to jump from the tallest building in town, they’re not going to be the most impressive soaring atop the air.
For the same reason, they’re not likely to take the first hit when a ground rush comes at them. The same is true for the swarm of insects mentioned below. In fact, a single bug of the same species will take three hits. This is far from a good thing.
