How Small Are Spider Eggs?
The size and shape of spider eggs vary, but they can usually be identified by their color. They are normally white or cream, but they can also be brown or spiky.
In some cases, the number of eggs in a single egg sac can range from four to over 600. Some spiders have been known to carry multiple egg sacs, while others only produce one. The time to hatch a spider egg depends on the species, but it usually takes between two and three weeks.
In general, an egg sac will be smaller than the spider that laid it. But in some cases, it may be as large as a bowling ball. Its size and shape will depend on the type of spider.
Some spiders, such as the Garden Spider, lay egg sacs that are almost spherical. Others, such as the wolf spider, carry the egg sacs around their webs. Some spiders, such as the House Spider, lay spherical egg sacs that can hold up to 150 eggs.
Some spiders, such as the Nursery-web spider, produce egg sacs that are carried in their jaws. The eggs are then dispersed through ballooning. Another method is to hang the sac from a leaf.
These spiders produce an egg sac that is covered with silk. In some cases, it is buried shallowly in soil or protected by a leaf. Some pholcids, such as the Physocyclus, can form denser egg sac covers in groups.
