Does a Dead Spider Attract More Spiders?
When you see a dead spider you may wonder if it attracts other spiders to the site of death. In reality, it won’t. A dead spider won’t attract other spiders because they don’t give off scents or use chemical pheromones.
Some species of spiders play dead for mating purposes. Male spiders are more likely to play dead than females. They also use the action as a form of self defense. The idea is that they don’t want to be targeted by a predator. They will also help protect the female by pretending to be dead.
While most spiders are harmless, there are a few species that can hurt humans unprovoked. You should remove them immediately if you suspect that they are venomous. If you are afraid of spiders, you can also hire a cat to kill them.
A few spiders have been known to play dead when accidentally falling from a spider web. This is thought to be an instinctual behavior. They are able to perform this behavior with ease because of their exceptional spatial capabilities.
Some species of spiders also emit pheromones when they die. These chemicals alert surrounding comrades that there is a danger. The pheromones are used to attract other insects to the area of the death.
If you have a large number of spiders in your home, you may wonder if you should kill them. This is not a good idea. You might also damage the egg sack of a pregnant female. Generally, killing spiders is considered bad karma.
