Do Spiders Hate Certain Colors?
If you are one of the many people who are scared of spiders, you may be wondering, do spiders hate certain colors? While you may not have heard it directly, it is true that different species of spiders have different color preferences.
It’s no secret that spiders like light. They are attracted to bright lights and they are also attracted to dark, shady places. They are also attracted to humidity and warm temperatures.
While there are no official numbers, it is estimated that there are about 300 different species of spiders in the world. Each species is different, and they are all attracted to different colours and lighting. Some are attracted to the most obvious colour, while others are attracted to ultraviolet and infrared lights.
There are no studies which prove that the colour red is the most attractive. However, it has been proven that insects and bugs are naturally attracted to certain wavelengths of light, especially the blue and green ones.
For example, you might have seen a pollen beetle in a rainbow hue, or a wolf spider in a lilac color. But the best way to get rid of these naughty little critters is by spraying them with essential oils such as peppermint. Or you could place a cedar mulch inside your home.
Other options include using fluorescent lights and LED lights. These lights are a lot brighter than the dimmer halogen and incandescent versions.
Regardless of which method you use, remember that light is not a guaranteed repellent of spiders. It’s important to keep in mind that there are several other factors which may affect your ability to ward off these naughty little critters.
