Do Spiders Drink From Your Mouth?
If you have ever had a spider on your bed, you might wonder if they drink from your mouth. This is an urban legend that is widely circulated on the Internet. It’s one of the most commonly shared myths.
The truth is that spiders don’t eat humans. They eat insects, and they are able to survive for up to a month without food or water. They can do so, because they have developed a well-tuned olfactory system. They can also detect prey through chemical cues on their legs.
The only reason a spider would enter your mouth while you are asleep is if they sense that there is danger. Moreover, spiders can’t chew. They have mouth parts called chelicerae, which act like straw.
To swallow a spider, you would have to open your mouth wide. In fact, most people close their mouths while they sleep. This is because of the vibrations produced by their breathing. The more vigorous the vibrations, the more likely a spider is to enter your mouth.
Spiders are very sensitive to vibrations. If you snore, for instance, the spiders in your bed will be turned off. They also don’t want to crawl on your lips. So, you will have to find a way to let them sleep through this sensation.
As for the myth that spiders do drink from your mouth, this is very unlikely. They do have a poop that causes “sand” in the morning. But, they don’t swallow blood.
