Do Spiders Bite You?
A spider bite may look harmless at first, but it’s not always. The redness, swelling, and itching may be signs of an allergic reaction to the bite. If the symptoms become severe, contact your doctor.
Some spiders are very dangerous, and their venom can cause life-threatening conditions. To reduce the risk of infection, wash the area with soap and water. Then apply an ice pack to the bite. The swelling should subside in just a few days.
In some cases, a spider bite can develop into an open sore, which should be treated with antibiotic cream. This can help to prevent infection, though it is advisable to clean the area every day to prevent scarring.
It’s best to contact your doctor if you have a spider bite, or if you have any of the following symptoms: fever, chills, muscle cramps, trouble breathing, or a rash. The swelling and pain may also spread to the center of your body.
While spiders do not typically bite humans, they are notorious for irritating skin. There are some common house spiders that may mistake humans for their prey, so be careful when you are outside or when you are wearing clothing.
If you do get a bite, try to identify the type of spider that bit you. This will help to make a more definitive diagnosis.
Some spiders, such as black widows, have long fangs that can be very painful. They are also known to cause full body shock.
