While the Khmer Rouge may have been responsible for the myth, the practice of eating tarantulas and other critters has been around for a long time.
Some species of spiders carry their egg sacs in their jaws, while others build them in their web. Some egg sacs have a silk barrier that protects them from predators. In some cases, they are built into curled leaves or hidden in burrows.
Some types of spiders lay numerous egg sacs, each with a different color and texture. Some are even tucked into the web itself, so they are difficult to spot.
