Can Spiders Pee on You?
Spiders eat insects and other waste products. This waste is then drained through the anal opening of the spider. The anus discharges the poop as a thick liquid. The black liquid is called meconium.
Most species of spiders are not poisonous. However, some species can cause serious medical problems. The brown recluse is one of the most dangerous of these. Its venom can rupture red blood cells, causing hemolysis. This can result in acute kidney injury and hemoglobin breakdown.
In a study, scientists at Friedmatt Sanatorium and Nursing Home in Switzerland fed spiders urine. Among the results, they found that the urine was dispirited and did not drink more. They also observed that the patients had an odor in their sweat.
This was an experiment to see if spiders could be used as a diagnostic tool for schizophrenia. In addition, researchers also thought the spiders might be affected by the biochemistry of schizophrenia.
The Friedmatt Sanatorium and Nursing Home conducted an experiment in which schizophrenic patients were taken off their medications and given spiders instead. This experiment caused the researchers to suspect that the venom of some spiders was affecting the biochemistry of schizophrenia.
