Can Spiders Kill Roaches?
Despite the widespread use of spiders to kill cockroaches, not all spiders can actually kill a roach. The venom of the black widow spider, for example, can be very harmful to humans. The bite of the black widow can cause severe pain, muscle stiffness, and vomiting.
However, spiders can be a powerful pest control tool when a small infestation is encountered. A wolf spider, for instance, has excellent eyesight and can catch and eat cockroaches easily. In fact, a wolf spider is often found in garages, sheds, and basements.
The black widow’s venom, however, is deadly. The spider’s venom can cause a person to feel extreme pain when touched, and can also cause muscle stiffness and even death. If you have a roach problem, you should remove any black widow spiders immediately.
Another type of spider that can kill cockroaches is the huntsman spider. This spider is capable of eating adult roaches. It also possesses venom that can be deadly to other insects. It can break down the muscle tissues and paralyze the victim, making them incapable of moving.
While some spiders will hunt and eat roaches, others will simply wait for the insects to pass by. They can also eat larger prey, such as fleas and mosquitoes.
There are thousands of species of spiders worldwide. Most of them are active hunters. They are opportunistic, meaning they will eat whatever is available. These spiders include the American house spider, the brown recluse spider, and the jumping spider.
