Why Do Rats Avoid Light?

Rats are very intelligent and active at night. They can dig pathways underground and extend them until they reach a source of food. When they reach this food source, they will quickly grab it and head to a hiding place. During the day, they hide in dark places and come out in the night when it’s still and dark. But they don’t like light, so they try to avoid it at all costs.

Rats are afraid of light because it will reveal their location to predators and will make them feel insecure. It may even keep them from leaving their home with their young. Light is a big deterrent for creatures that climb and burrow, but even a steady indoor light can be frightening to them. The blue and green wavelengths are what rats are most sensitive to.

While rats are usually active at night, there are times they will come out to seek food. For example, if the building they inhabit is more active during the day than during the night, rats will come out to find food. Other times, they may come out when they’re hungry and feel safe. However, they prefer to come out at night, when the darkness is more comfortable.

Nevertheless, it’s important to know that rats are nocturnal creatures and that they’ll come out during the day only when there is a predator nearby. Nevertheless, rats can survive during the day when it’s not as bright.
