What Rats Look Like

There are many different species of rats and it can be difficult to tell them apart from each other based on a photo alone. The reason is that there are many variations in the appearance of the species. Juvenile rodents are extremely difficult to identify without looking at them in person. The young are fearless around humans and very agile, so they can often be difficult to spot. Juvenile rodents are often found in trees and fences and are often able to climb up to reach the higher branches. They feed on grains and pet food.

Rats are usually brown in colour and can be spotted by their characteristic tracks. These tracks are about two to four centimetres wide and often have a circular shape. If you notice tracks on your floors, these are almost certainly rat holes. If you see these, you may want to investigate and try to get rid of the rodents as soon as possible.

Most of the time, rats follow the same routes. They scurry between their nests and food sources. Therefore, you should check your fridge, pantries, and cabinets containing food. Another important sign of a rat infestation is gnaw marks on walls, pipes, and wires. In addition, they can chew through duct tape and electrical wires.
