How Hard Is It To Breed Rats?
Many people who own pets like the idea of breeding. However, there are many things you must take into consideration before breeding rats. First, you must ensure that you buy adult rats that are healthy. You must also make sure that the offspring are healthy and fit. In some cases, rats can produce large litters – up to 14 babies can be born within six months. Also, you must always remember not to release your offspring back into the wild.
In order to breed a rat, you must have a male and a female rat. You should make sure that both are in good health, and then place them together in a breeding tub. During the breeding period, the male will approach the female, and if she is receptive, she will allow him to mount her. Once they are mated, they will mate several times in a short period. When the breeding period is over, you should separate them, and give them lots of bedding and food.
Male rats reach sexual maturity at six to 10 weeks, and female rats at eight to twelve weeks. Female rats can have litters of up to fourteen pups, and the puppies are born blind and deaf. Female rats can be pregnant again as quickly as two weeks after giving birth. To prevent a repeat pregnancy, female rats should rest for two months between pregnancies. Female rats need this time to recover and grow before they start breeding again.
