How Fast Rats Run
The average rat can run at almost 18 km/h, which is much faster than the average human can run. This is due to the fact that rats can jump nearly three times their height. While we may think of rats as pests, their agility and fast running speed makes them beneficial for farming and other industries.
This is partly due to their flexible bones and their ability to swim. Rats can hold their breath for up to three minutes and can even tread water for three days. Some rats can swim at up to 0.8km/h. The average rat has an IQ of 105, while mice have an IQ of around 100.
While rats are generally nocturnal, they do leave their nests at dusk, so you may not see them in the middle of the day. Their ability to hide helps them grow in population without being noticed. Although rats are more fearful than mice, they can adapt quickly to new food sources, environments, and routines.
