Rats can also reach unreachable areas and are good at measuring rough surfaces. Most rats can jump 20 times their body length or climb up to 13 inches on a vertical smooth surface. Their physical advantage in climbing is their sharp claws and small dermal ridges on their pads, which add extra friction.
