How Easy Are Rats to Train?
Using treats as rewards, you can train your rat to come when called. The first step is to show him a treat when he approaches your hand. Repeat the process several times. Once he responds correctly, give him the treat. Then you can move on to a higher bar for reward.
Once your rat is litter-trained, it will be easier for you to teach it where to go potty. You should put a litter box in every corner of the cage, and make sure the rat has easy access to it. When your rat uses the litter box, praise it.
When training your rat, try not to use the same tricks for all of them at the same time. Some rats will take longer to learn new tricks. You can also try a shortened version of their name to make them more motivated. You can also train them to stand by offering them treats that are held up high.
Rats are very motivated by food, which makes it an excellent incentive for teaching them new behaviors. Try bribing them with small pieces of pasta, unsalted popcorn, or a thin slice of banana. You can even offer them blueberries or a variety of other fruits. Once they learn what you want them to do, you can reward them with treats whenever they perform a particular behavior.
