Do Mice Turn Into Rats?

A rat’s smell makes mice suspicious. They know that if they approach a rat, they’ll likely end up in its belly. Thankfully, mice don’t often cross paths with rats, which are far more territorial and hungry. But if you notice burrows around your yard, that’s a sign of a serious infestation.
Mice can enter your home at any time, but they are most common in fall and winter. As the weather becomes cooler, they look for a warm place to spend the winter. They don’t hibernate, but they need food close at hand. It’s also important to keep in mind that rats can carry diseases and may infect humans. They can spread these diseases by scratching and gnawing.
