Can You Drink Rats?
The answer is a resounding “Yes!” Rats can drink alcohol if they are given the opportunity. In the laboratory, rats will consume a small amount of alcohol if offered, but they won’t drink until they are drunk. And because alcohol contains calories, rats who drink alcohol will eat less than they otherwise would. Researchers published their findings in Pharmacology, Biochemistry, and Behavior.
While rat milk isn’t necessarily bad for humans, the risks associated with it are higher than those associated with milk from cows, buffaloes, or goats. The latter animals are naturally resistant to many diseases that can jump to humans. However, rats are more susceptible to many of the same infections as cows or goats. Nevertheless, humans have been consuming rat milk for centuries.
Luckily, there are many ways to poison rats. The most common method is to use anticoagulants. These poisons are effective against rats because they prevent the rat’s blood from clotting. The toxic effects can last for days or even a few hours. In severe cases, they may require hospitalization.
